Lockdown tightened after first coronavirus case

CHITRAL: Lockdown tightened by the district administration on Monday after Chitral’s first COVID-19 case emerged in the town a day earlier.

Vehicles bringing people from different cities were stopped at the entry points of the town. As lockdown tightened, the travellers were seen walking towards the town.

Moreover, Chew Dok, the locality of the first corona patient, was sealed with deployment of the police.

The police were also searching all those who had stayed with the patient at Insaf Hostel near the vegetable market on their 14-day quarantine.

The 48-year-old patient is admitted to the isolation ward of District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.

Early in the morning, the police did not allow even those shops and businesses related to construction etc which had been allowed to resume business. The road to the bazaar area was also shut and passengers were seen walking on foot.

The road from Goldur Chowk towards Governor Cottage was closed for all types of traffic while shops in the main bazaar, Shahi bazaar, Atalegh bazaar, bypass road, new bazaar and Cluprisht bazaar remained closed. However, bazaars in Jughoor and Chew bridge remained opened.

On the other hand, ChitralToday has learnt that two people who had come to Chitral from Swat on Sunday were not kept in quarantine. Besides, scores of people who reached Ayun from different cities of Pakistan also skipped quarantine and instead of living in self-isolation were meeting people in their neighbourhood.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
