Lowari tunnel to be closed for public transport tonight

CHITRAL: After midnight March 20th, all public transport vehicles coming to Chitral will be turned away from Upper Dir and would not be allowed to proceed towards the Lowari tunnel.

This was announced by the Chitral police as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus.

Residents of Upper Chitral told ChitralToday that movement of public transport vehicles had been banned by the district administration.

Meanwhile, the suspected COVID-19 patient from Ghoru in Upper Chitral tested negative for the virus.

Mujtaba Hussain was brought to DHQ hospital Chitral with symptoms of the coronavirus. Due to lack of testing kits at the hospital, he was referred to Peshawar where he was tested negative for the virus.

A large number of people on Friday reached Chitral from down districts. The police asked the public to avoid travelling to Chitral, saying they would not be allowed entry into Chitral from the tunnel.

Police in most of Upper Chitral have directed public transporters not to operate towards Chitral town or other areas such as Booni and Mastuj.
