Lowari tunnel road opened for light traffic

CHITRAL: The Chitral-Dir road was opened for light traffic after removal of snow from Chitral side of Lowari tunnel on Thursday.

The district administration said vehicles should use tyre chain to avoid any mishap as the road was slippery and highly dangerous for driving.

The closure of the road connecting Chitral with other parts of the country caused immense hardship for passengers and hundreds of people remained stranded on the snowbound mountainous road for three days.

Meanwhile, most of the areas in Chitral are still cut off due to the snowbound roads. The most affected areas include Upper Yarkhun, Torkhow, Garam Chashma and Kalash valleys.

Even on other roads, people could not find transport as taxis remained stranded somewhere else or did not venture out.

All parties and former governments have their share in the deprivation of Chitral. In fact all former and sitting public representatives have also not done their bit to solve the problems. If our representatives of past and present had even taken stand like a Chitrali citizen Siraj ul Mulk who does not hold any public office or responsibility, we would not have been in this abject condition, as we are now.
