Chitral receives intermittent rain/snowfall

CHITRAL: Intermittent rain and snowfall on mountains and high altitude villages in both lower and upper Chitral since Friday morning turned the weather cold on Friday.

The early snowfall has sent alarm bells ringing among farmers who feared that it would damage the maize crop.

Besides, they said, the government should supply wheat to the sale points of the food department across Chitral before the onset of the winter season otherwise people in far-off areas could face shortage of food.

Increase in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas and firewood is also set to add to the suffering of the people.

Moreover, supply of necessary commodities to Chitral is impacted due to the closure of work on the construction of the approach roads to Lowari tunnel.

Last year too, Chitral had received rain and snowfall on Nov 1.
