Injured British mountaineer rescued from Khoyo Zom

ISLAMABAD: One of the five British mountaineers, who was injured from a fall and trapped on 6,872-metre high Khoyo Zom in Yarkhun valley of Upper Chitral, was rescued by army and shifted to Gilgit on Monday, a source told ChitralToday.

The authorities decided to shift the injured member of the British expedition to Gilgit as hospitals in Chitral lacked proper facilities, said the source.

Three of the five-member British expedition had already been rescued from the mountain. The injured along with another mountaineer could not be rescued on Sunday as army helicopters could not reach them due to bad weather.

The British mountaineers – Alastair James Swinton, Thomas Michael Livingstone, Usdean Robertson Hawthorn, William Taylor Sim and  John James Crook had reached the area in September.
