KOGHUZI: Though the deputy commissioner has imposed Section 144 in lower Chitral, people of Koghuzi and Golen are set to hold a protest on Sunday morning.

At a meeting of elected local government representatives and others today, it was decided that the locals would gather outside WAPDA colony gate at 9am and peacefully register their protest.

The people of the two villages have been demanding compensation for being affected by the Golen Gol hydro power project, alleged illegal inductions in local WAPDA office and frequent power outages.

A few days ago, the DC imposed Section 144 under which assembly of five and more people is prohibited.

The DC stated that some “miscreants” were planning a protest who might damage government installations in Koghuzi.

But the residents at the meeting today said they had the right to peacefully register their protest to convey their issues to the government.

They expressed the hope that the DC would not try to suppress their voice for getting their rights.

The participants said they had time and again taken up the issue with the DC but to no avail.
