AYUN: Village council Ayun nazim Mujibur Rehman and councilors have welcomed directions issued by KP minister for tourism and youth affairs Atif Khan and minister for local government Shehram Khan Tarakai to ensure cleanliness along rivers and other water bodies located in tourist areas.
They said it was also a timely decision by the ministers that no one should be allowed to pollute rivers by constructing hotels and other structures along its banks.
The VC nazim said the situation in Chitral, especially in Ayun and Kalash valleys, was deteriorating day by day where waterways and lakes as well as tourist spots were being polluted by commercialization.
Most of the hotels and other buildings along rivers and streams discharge their sewage into the water, he regretted.
The polluted water is then used for drinking purpose by the residents such as in Ayun, which is causing different diseases among the residents, he added.
The elected representatives said there was no arrangement to dispose of waste and garbage in tourist spots such as Shandur and Qaqlasht and other areas.
They said so far the district government and the health department Chitral have taken no steps to tackle the issue.
They said the deputy commissioner and the health department should now ensure implementation of the decisions taken by the ministers to check the situation from further deteriorating in the best interest of local people as well as the tourist spots.
