Protest rally terms Zardari’s arrest political victimisation

CHITRAL: PPP Chitral on Tuesday held a rally to protest the arrest of party leader and former president Asif Ali Zardari.

The rally started from the Chitral bazaar and reached outside local press club where the participants were addressed by local PPP leaders and activists.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP Chitral senior vice president Fazle Rabbi and general secretary Muhammad Hakim Advocate said the arrest of Mr Zardari by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was politically motivated and against the principles of law.

They said through a selected accountability political opponents were being victimized by the PTI government.

First arresting a person and then starting an inquiry into a case against him is injustice, they added.

They said all these illegal and anti-democratic moves were aimed at rolling back the 18th amendment under which provinces had been given autonomy by the PPP government in 2010.

The PPP’s history is full of examples when its leaders were victimized through fake cases and imprisoned and martyred. So any tactics to browbeat the party would fail as it failed in the past.

The speakers said the PPP Chitral was waiting for its provincial leadership’s signal to launch a protest move against the arrest of Mr Zardari.
