CHITRAL: The provincial government has released an amount of 20 million for the reconstruction of roads in Booni.
The roads in the headquarters of the newly-created Upper Chitral district have been in poor condition for years.
During the last three years, executive engineer communication and works (C&W) department Maqbool Azam had submitted over 20 applications and reminders to the KP government for release of funds to repair the roads.
A statement on Monday said now due to the efforts of and personal interest taken by minority MPA Wazirzada, the government has released the amount.
The people of Booni said due to non-repair of the roads they have been facing hardship. They said the funds should be judiciously spent on the reconstruction of the roads.
Almost all major roads in Chitral were damaged during the 2015 floods. Due to lack of maintenance, especially the Chitral-Mastuj and other roads, are in dilapidated conditions.
The mega projects of Chitral-Shandur, Garam Chashma and Bumburate roads approved by the previous PML-N federal government remain in the cold storage.
The government despite repeated appeals by the people of Chitral is delaying their launch of work on their reconstruction.
