Bids invited to purchase separate transformer for upper Chitral

BOONI: In order to supply electricity from Golen Gol power station to upper Chitral, the Pkahtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) invited bids for the acquisition of a seven MVA 11/33 KV transformer to be installed at Jutilasht grid.
The bids are to be submitted by Feb 26 and will be opened the same day. The initiation of bids has been welcomed by people of upper Chitral, who have been facing power suspension since the powerhouse at Reshun was washed away in the 2015 floods.
The area still remains without electricity even after after the completion of the 108 megawatt Golen Gol power station.
For years, the people of upper Chitral have been protesting under the aegis of Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam to press the government to resolve the power crisis.
A few weeks ago, they arranged a protest meeting in Booni and announced to hold a long march to Golen Gol on Feb 12. However, on Feb 10, MNA Molanna Abdul Akbar met the representatives of the Tehreek and traders’ unions and promised that within a month a separate transformer would be arranged for upper Chitral.
He also promised that a separate grid station would be set up at Qaqlasht for upper Chitral at a later stage.
On his assurance, the representatives of the Tehreek decided to postpone the long march for a month.
On Friday, the Tehreek office-bearers welcomed the invitation of the bids for the purchase of a transformer. They expressed the hope that the power crisis in the area would be resolved soon.
