Children suffering from Down syndrome visit Chitral
CHITRAL: A group of children suffering from the Down syndrome visited Chitral to create awareness about the issues being faced by the children. The visit was arranged by a charity organization.
Jalal Akbar Dar of Al-Jalal Welfare Trust said they have set up a rehabilitation centre for such children in Jhelum.
He said children suffering from Down syndrome have not been recognized as special children so far. Mr Dar said children suffering from Down syndrome should be declared special persons so that they could be treated as such and provided with facilities they need at the national level. He said these children have visited different areas and met people to present them the flag of peace.
Down syndrome (DS or DNS), also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. It is typically associated with physical growth delays, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and characteristic facial features.
