Chitral tehsil council presents deficit budget

CHITRAL: The Rs32.08 million deficit budget of Chitral`s tehsil municipal administration was approved here on Thursday.

Tehsil nazim Maulana Mohammad Ilyas told the house that like previous year, the provincial government had curtailed 50 percent of the development budget causing financial problems for Chitral TMA to improve its services.

He said against the Rs132.076 million income, the TMA`s expenses totaled Rs172.734 million during the financial year and thus causing a deficit of Rs40.658 million.
The nazim said the TMA was dependent on the provincial government`s funds the limited sources of own income.

He said the administration`s attempts to impose charges for service delivery were challenged by the people in the court.

The nazim said in the local government law, the TMAs had been given huge responsibilities of service delivery, including water supply, sanitation and town management and ruraldevelopment but they didn`t get the required resources for it.

He asked the council members to cope with the situation and deliberate ways and means to dispense with the responsibilities and come up to the people`s expectations.
