‘Awareness, sensitization of society must for disaster risk management’

CHITRAL: International Day for Disaster Reduction was commemorated by Hashoo Foundation (HF) at its main office in Balach.
Sajjad Ahmad, Manager AKRSP, was chief guest while Ghafoor Baig, chairman Citizen Community Development Network, was guest of hour.
Muhammad Khalid of HF briefed the participants regarding their work on disaster risk management.

He said HF is a knowledge based organization which work on six sectors as well as disaster risk management is one of the main component of their programs. He said that HF train male and female on disaster risk management that how we can reduce ratio of loss in case of any natural calamity.

He said that create awareness among the youth and in this connection they working in 24 villages on community based disaster risk management.

Professor Ajmal Saeed, who is teaching environmental sciences at the Commerce College Chitral, said environment and disaster reduction must be taught in every class up to the matric level.
Zafar Ahmad of Rescue 1122 briefed the participants about emergency services and said we can’t stop a disaster but we can reduce its losses.

Nigah Hussain Khan, Deputy Area Coordinator of ACTED, that we should play our role in disaster reduction and for this purpose we should train and educate all segments of society.

Sajjad Ahmad said civil society organizations can train and educate the people in disaster risk reduction but this is responsibility of state to implement such policy in which public face lesser loss in case of any natural calamity or disaster.

Ghafoor Baig talked on disaster on Islamic point of view that each disaster causing by human involvement.

Nizam Ali said we should go one step ahead and only awareness is not solution of the problems but we should focus on sensitization. If we sensitize about the loss or risk of any plan we will adopt such measurement where we face less loss.
