CHITRAL: It seems there is no end to the rising cases of suicide as a serving schoolteacher killed himself in the Garam Chashma valley. The cause of the suicide could not be ascertained.
Locals said Muhammad Qasim, a resident of Bashqer upper, worked as the head teacher at the government primary school Narkoret. On Tuesday night, he killed himself by hanging. The police are investigating the case.
Suicide incidents have been a major issue in Chitral for years with young people, especially girls, being most of the victims. In the meantime, both the civil society and successive governments have failed to take steps to stem the trend.
So far this year, 46 people have committed suicide in different parts of Chitral which has a population of 447,362, according to the 2017 census.
The KP government recently announced to form a four-member committee to find out the factors behind the rising number of suicide cases in Chitral but the committee is yet to initiate its work.
