Two die as vehicle falls off dilapidated bridge

CHITRAL: Two persons lost their lives and three others were injured after a Potohar they were travelling in fell into the Torkhow river while crossing the dilapidated bridge in front of Washich on Saturday.
Reports said Saeedur Rehman of Washich was driving the Suzuki Jimny (A1-5206) back home after meeting his relatives in Zang Lasht on Eid day when the accident occurred.

As a result, Saeedur Rehman, son of Amir Nayab, and Wajid, son of  Muhibur Rehman, both residents of Washich, lost their lives while Wajihur Rehman, son of Saeedur Rehman, Yourmas Murad, son of Jam Shah of Washich and Ziaur Rehman, son of Mir Sawat Khan of Zang Lasht were injured.

The bodies and injured persons were retrieved from the river by the local people. The injured were later shifted to the rural health centre in Shagram.

It is a matter of concern that for the last a few years scores of people have lost their lives after falling from dilapidated bridges over rivers and streams in upper Chitral. Most of the bridges in upper Chitral were damaged in the 2015 floods but they have not been repaired so far putting the lives of commuters at risk. –Muhkam Uddin Ayuni

Saeedur Rahman was a dedicated teacher, an accomplished educationist and a great human being. Many of his students, like me, are really sad on his untimely demise.

May the departed souls rest in eternal peace and may the bereaved family have the forbearance to bear this loss. My prayers and good wishes for the early recovery and good health of the injured.
