Upper Chitral receives rain, snowfall on mountains

YARKHUN: Villages in Yarkhun valley and other parts of Upper Chitral received rain and snowfall from last night till 10am on Thursday which turned the temperature very cool.

Mountains in the Yarkhun valley also received snowfall which local elders said was quite unusual in the month of May.

he people of the area said the rain was much needed as it occurred when dry spell had gripped the area due to less snowfall in the winter season.

In areas fed by small streams there is still fear about a lack of water for crops till July as mountains have received very less snow. Moreover, locals also expressed the fear that if there are no rainfalls there could be glacial outburst floods in the summer.

The early Thursday rain was however localized in upper areas as ChitralToday correspondent in Booni reported only cloudy weather and chances of drizzle at about 1pm on Thursday.
