PESHAWAR: After allegations of corruption in the PTI-led government’s billion tree tsunami project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the country’s corruption watchdog, the National Accountability Bureau, has started investigations.
A statement issued by NAB KP said a team of officers had been constituted to probe alleged embezzlement of funds in the project. A briefing was given by concerned officers of the forest department to director general KP NAB Farmanullah Khan.
The NAB team asked questions regarding different aspects of the project such as allocation and utilization of funds, saplings and self-growing seeds, procurement of plants, procedure for plantation, free distribution, hiring of Negehbaan, procedure for payments, etc.
It was stated that the process of inquiry into the project had been initiated in compliance with the directives issued by NAB Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal.
Millions of saplings have also been planted under the project in different parts of Chitral, including on barren lands and along riverbeds.
