'Political leaders should jointly work for progress'He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a project completed under the Biyar Local Support Organization (BLSO) here today. He said it was also our collective responsibility to work for protecting Chitral against natural calamities. He said the government should provide free of cost electricity to the people of Chitral so that they can stop cutting trees for use as firewood. The people of Chitral should also encourage to plant more and more trees so that the chances of floods and soil erosion can be minimized. He said the provision of free electricity to Chitral would go a long way in increasing the forest cover in the valley. He also called upon the government to fulfil its promise of creating the district of Upper Chitral on a priority basis. He said as Chitral was the remotest and area-wise largest district of the KP province, the bifurcation of the valley would facilitate the residents in a number of aspects. Mr Ahmed said he had been in contact with the authorities concerned to ensure that one seat of the provincial assembly from Chitral is not abolished on the basis of the 2017 census. He said if the seat was snatched from Chitral, it would add to the suffering of the people, especially that of Upper Chitral. Elected local government members from village councils of Parwak, Awi and Sonoghur attended the functions.
