BOONI: A large number of people held a protest here against absence of electricity in Upper Chitral and warend of marching to Golen Gol if the issue was not resolved.
The protest was organized by Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam with former president of the Tehreek Sarfaraz Ali Khan in the chair.
Tehsil Nazim Maulana Muhammad Yousuf was the chief guest. The speakers on the occasion said if the government did not announce to give power to Upper Chitral from Golen Gol before the inauguration of the 108 megawatt project by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Jan 10, the people of Upper Chitral would start a march towards Golen Gol.
They warned that both the federal and the KP government would be responsible for the consequences of the public outrage if the area was denied its right. They said that after the destruction of the Reshun powerhouse by floods in 2015 the government had been hoodwinking the masses of Upper Chitral and did not repair the powerhouse.
They thanked the people of Koh area in lower Chitral for supporting the demand of Upper Chitral for the supply of power from Golen Gol to them. The protesters said the people of Chitral, both upper and lower, had the first right on the electricity generated in the valley and the government would not be allowed.
