BREP (UPPER CHITRAL): Hundreds of people here on Thursday held a protest gathering against slow progress on the murder case of a youth.
Aslam Baig died under mysterious circumstances at his home in April this year. His relatives got an FIR registered against his widow and a police constable on suspicion of killing him.
The relatives of Baig approached the police after Baig’s widow contracted court marriage with the constable about six months after his death. Both the woman and the constable belonged to the Zupu village of upper Yarkhun.
The Mastuj police registered a murder case against the couple and arrested the woman but the constable is yet to be taken into custody. So far, no progress has been made to exhume the body for medical examination as the police have contacted a hospital in Peshawar.
As result, the relatives and other people of Brep are angry and accused the police of not taking an interest in the case and trying to save the constable.
The protesters blocked the Chitral-Yarkhun road for over six hours on Thursday and demanded that justice be provided to the family of the deceased. They said the protest would continue till the police takes action in the FIR in accordance with the law to bring the killers of the young man to justice.
