DC orders opening of blocked road to upper Yarkhun
The DC was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Mastuj Hayat Shah and other officials. The DC on the occasion instructed the food department to arrange the supply of at least 400 bags of wheat to the sale points in the blocked area of upper Yarkhun and Broghil. He also directed the communication and work department to reopen the road on a priority basis. The DC assured the locals that if prompt action was not taken to remove their grievances the responsible officials would be punished. It may be mentioned that the only road to the upper Yarkhun and Broghil valley was cut off after floods in a stream at Unauch village blocked the river turning it into a dam. A large portion of the road along the river and a mountain has been washed away, blocking the whole area in the north of the village. It was the criminal negligence of the food Chitral that despite repeated appeal by the residents it did not stock wheat in the sale points in the remote area. Now with the blockade of the only road, the people of the area are faced with an acute shortage of essential commodities and are also unable to move out of the area. The locals appreciated the DC Chitral for promptly visiting the area to review the situation and expressed the hope that his directions issued to the food and the C&W departments would be implemented without delay in in order to avoid a crisis-like situation in the cut-off area.]]>
