Protesters want removal of ATRs from Chitral route

PESHAWAR: A protest was held here in which the participants demanded that the government should remove the ATR planes from the route of Chitral to avoid further tragedy.

The protest was led by MPAs from upper and lower Chitral, Sardar Hussain and Saleem Khan. The participants were carrying placards inscribed with different slogans. The protesters demanded that the ATR planes should be removed from the Chitral route.

They also asked the government to remove the chairman of the PIA from the post and launch an inquiry into the tragedy through the Supreme Court. The ATR flight PK-661 carrying 42 passengers and five crew members and other staff crashed near Halevian while coming to Islamabad from Chitral on Wednesday.

So far, bodies of eight of the victims have been identified while samples collected from the relatives of 36 victims. The relatives of three foreigners who also died in the crash are yet to come to give samples.
