Nawaz Sharif announces 250-bed hospital, university for Chitral

During his speech, Nawaz Sharif again tried to have fun of the people of Chitral and said he was happy that the people of Chitral have started understanding the Urdu language As a prime minister when I came here in the 90s, people here did not know Urdu, he said. He asked the crowd to raise hands how many of you know Urdu. Then he asked those to raise hands who only understand Chitrali (Khowar) language. He then said the people of Chitral are very competent and know Urdu, English and are not behind the people of Karachi, Lahore and Quetta in terms of education. PML-N leader Amir Muqam, MNA Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin and district nazim Maghfirat Shah thanked the prime minister for visiting Chitral thrice in about a year. https://twitter.com/ajmalkwazir/status/773421613127704576 The MNA said Chitral was the only district in KP which was provided Rs6 billion funds by the federal government during a year. He said change had actually been initiated by the PML-N from Chitral. He said billions of rupees were being spent on different projects in Chitral including the Lowari tunnel and the Chitral-Shandur, Garam Chashma and Bumburate roads. He also reminded the PM about his announcement to waive agricultural loans of the people of Chitral but Mr Sharif did not mention the loans in his speech. The prime minister was later briefed on the Lowari tunnel project by NHA chairman Javed Ashraf Tarar. He said the 8.5 km tunnel would be the longest in the country. He said four new bridges and roads on the southern and northern portals of the tunnel were also being constructed.  ]]>

PM Nawaz’s visit to Chitral is encouraging. His promises and offerings for the inhabitants of the region are welcomed,as social and educational development is imperative for the betterment of the local people.May the pledges be materialized sooner than later!
His ridicule of the natives by way of inquiring into their comprehension of Urdu language is indeed a bitter cup presented to us, which is but to be swallowed, and which is but very indecorous of him.
If fully acquiring second language is the criteria for competency,we may be faltering there because ours is one of the ongoing stages of evolution. We will turn out as globally acknowledged nation in matter of times.
So need to get agitated by his remark. We are not to do ourselves a discredit.

This is not the fault of the prime minister if made of Chitralis, saying they could not even communicate in Urdu when he visited Chitral in 1999. This is the problems of elected representative who befooled you in the name of Gen Musharraf. These people tell the people at the helm of affairs that there existed no one except them. All Chitralis are uneducated, illitrate, could not talk in Urdu, English, and some peopel even in Khowar. So the time has come that people of chitral should be careful while electing their representatives in next elections. But make sure one thing that someone is going to befool you again in the name of Nawaz Sharif. They will come to u in next elections sayin g that you people should vote for Nawaz sharif.

My optimism nosedived when I watched the PM’s speech in Chitral today. This is the second time Mr. Nawaz Sharif came to Chitral without being properly briefed about the people, its culture and the high standards of education. The PM asked my fellow brethren whether they understood Urdu? Someone should have told him beforehand that Chitral has 70% literacy rate and it ranks in the top 5 districts in KPK, by asking the locals such a thoughtless question the PM clearly reveals his own ignorance of the local culture and its inhabitants.
To start with such laudable introductory remarks, the PM then goes on telling Chitsralis about different projects that his Govt. is planning to launch in the district. Apart from announcing that a new full fledge university will be established in district headquarters, which is of course commendable; he sticks to the same political rhetoric that one expects from all politicians. The Lowari tunnel project has to be completed one way or the other in any case in the next one or two years as there is not much work left to be done there. The road link to Gilgit and some other local projects were initiated by Gen Musharraf.
In a nutshell this visit will not be remembered with good memories in Chitral because of the PM’s non serious attitude towards the local community. This is highly insulting for the people of Chitral especially when the person who does that has had a reputation of being aloof from Education and Knowledge i.e. Gen Musharraf writes in his book “In the Line of Fire”,” I never saw Nawaz Sharif to even read a newspaper in the 4 years I spent with him, let alone making pro education policies”.
This is the level of our leadership at the highest post of the country and we still keep hopes of a better tomorrow. The PM should apologize to the people of Chitral for his words.

Well he did’t kicked the ass of anyone like our chitrali rulers used to. He is right to say that Chitralies can hardly speak. Yes! That is right. Except the people of Ojoor who live in karachi, few of us can speak urdu corrrectly. Except ourselves everyone knows that, we are weak and poor community living in remotest district, of remote province of a remote and poor country of the world. Nashk ri”””o Room asmantu.

Good show by the Chitralis. To get the prime minister to come so many times to the district is a creditable achievement. Congratulation to the MNA for being pragmatic. General Musharaf now sits outside Pakistan. He will always be remembered with respect. But we must look forward and the Chitralis demonstrated today that they are forward looking people

  12. M.fawad says

Good development. Chitral would see a new era of development even if half of the pledges are materialized. A good show of unity by the people of Chitral and local leadership belonging to all political parties as well. Also, the participants of the rally exhibit maturity by not resorting to unnecessary sloganeering.M.fawad

  13. piyar Ali says

PMs remarks against the MNA is very alarming. MNA needs to resign immediately on moral grounds.

IF THE PEOPLE OF THE AREA CANNOT EVEN UNDERSTAND URDU THAN WHY HE ANNOUNCED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A UNIVERSITY.THIS WILL BE A WASTE OF PUBLIC MONEY.THE PEOPLE OF DIR AND DOK DAR having letracy rates(12%)and 23% respectively DESERVES this amount for university while our 78% LT is not enough.MAY BE NEXT TIME IF WE WILL DIFFERENTIATE WHAT IS A CRORORE AND ARAB PKRS ALL ABOUT???THEN HE WILL ANNOUNCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A MEDICAL COLLEGE.IN OTHER WORDS WE WERE HUMILIATED BY THE PM ONCE AGAIN

  18. Mohammad Afzal says

This is good that PM announced for 250 Bed Hospital in Chitral and other project particularly roads and completion of Lawari Tunnel in mid-next year. However, this is disappointing that PM is still not clear about literacy and education level of the people of Chitral and again made a joke with them. His ground work was poor and his workers must tell him that 99% Chitrali can talk in Urdu, most of the people are able to understand and talk in English. He must know that Chitral fall in to top three districts in KPK in literacy rate.

  19. Ahmad says

At this very polo ground, Gen Pervez Musharraf gifted his Glock 17 pistol to this namak haram Amir Muqam which was gifted to him by the then US Defence Secretary Donal Rumsfeld. And today, that very Muqam who used be the blue eyed boy of Gen Musharraf is polishing the shoes of Nawaz Sharif, the arch rival of Gen Musharraf.
If the readers of ChitralToday could recall, the MNA Chitral Iftikharuddin contradicted a story published by this very online newspaper where he had claimed that the votes he bagged in 20013 elections were not due to Musharraf, as his had enough vote bank in the area. And today, it was confirmed by no other than his immediate boss Nawaz Sharif that he wanted to join PMLN long, long ago.

    1. Ashraf says

Musharraf deserves Amir Muqam and Iftikharuddin. He accepted the Glock pistol from Rumsfield as a symbol of submitting to US against the wishes of Pakistan people. After coming to power he embraced the same people against who he had couped. He boycotted elections but allowed his candidate to contest from Chitral because he hoped to win there. Musharraf as an unprincipled selfish person deserves what he gets.
