ISLAMABAD: The members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Communication held its meeting here the other day.
The meeting said the 309 km Nowshera-Chitral road would well serve as the alternative to CPEC in case the route through KKH is blocked for any reason.
The chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the meeting that work on the Lowari tunnel project, part of the Nowshera-Chitral highway, was near completion and would be opened for traffic in March 2017.
It may be noted that after the completion of the tunnel and the main highway, Pakistan would be linked to the Central Asian countries via Chitral’s Boroghil pass. The Nowshera-ChitralTajikistan road would also be lined to Gilgit-Baltistan via the Shadur Pass to become an alternative to CPEC.
