Poor, destitutes loss patron

KARACHI: Prominent philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who spent his life serving humanity,  passed away on Friday night after encountering breathing complications earlier during the day at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant in Karachi.  edhiMr Edhi, who was undergoing treatment at SIUT, had been put on a ventilator after breathing complications during the day. His son Faisal Edhi had earlier announced that Edhi was in a critical condition and had also urged the nation to pray for his health. His son had earlier also announced that his kidneys had failed and since the philanthropist was more than 92 years old, it was not possible to conduct a kidney transplant. Faisal Edhi spoke to media personnel after his father had been announced dead. “I want to tell everyone that Edhi sahab is no more,” said Faisal, while choking on his tears. “His funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow (Saturday) after Zuhr prayers at Memon Masjid at Bolton Market,” he added. Faisal Edhi also said that they would honour two wishes of Abdul Sattar Edhi. “He had prepared for himself a grave in Edhi village about twenty-five years ago. We will bury him there according to his wishes. Also, he wanted to be buried in the same clothes in which he died. Hence, we will also honour his wish and bury him in the clothes that he passed away,” he added. Faisal Edhi also disclosed that Abdul Sattar Edhi had willed to have his organs donated. An operation was conducted to extract his cornea so it could be donated as an organ to someone in need of it. The rest of Mr Edhi’s organs were too old to be for use to anyone.]]>
