Floods in Ursun described as unprecedented

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman, Maj Gen (retired) Asghar Nawaz, the floods left 28 people dead. He said 15 of the people killed by the floods were offering Taraveh at the local mosque. Talking to a TV channel, the NDMA chief said 29 houses were fully and 27 were partially damaged in the village. The bodies were washed away by the floods in the nullah which enters the Chitral river, he added. He said after the alert about rains, especially after the devastation in the valley last year, the local communities had been sensitized to remain alert about the flash floods. But in case of the Ursun village, the locals never imagined that they would face such a devastating deluge after a short spell of rain/thunderstorm.]]>
