Speaking at a plantation ceremony held In Garam Chashma under the aegis of the forest department under, the MPA said that under the programme the government was pay Rs88,000 to the people of any area who planted 2,000 saplings under the programme – at the rate of Rs44 per sapling.
He said that without the active participation of the community, the tree plantation programme would not achieve the desired results. He stressed the need for sustained efforts to increase the forest cover in order to protect the land from soil erosion nd flooding.—S. Nazir Hussain
