Project launched to boost community-based natural resources

blso The “Conservation of wildlife habitat through strengthening of community-based natural resources” project is funded by SGAFP (USAID). In this regard, a launching ceremony was held at the PTDC Motel in Booni. District Nazim Haji Maghfirat Shah was chief guest at the function which was attended by notables of Booni and officials of the donor agencies and the BLSO. The programme was presided over by tehsil council member Sardar Hakim. Akhtar Uddin, the project manager, presented the details of the project. The chairman of the BLSO briefed the participants about the BLSO and the USAID project. HANDS general manager Mr Mustafa was also present. The project, which would be completed in seven months, would be executed in the villages of Meragram No 1, Parwak and Awi. Under the project, the local communities would be imparted training on how to conserve their environment. They will also be provdied training to keep livestock in a scientific way. The communities would also be trained on how to prepare bricks from dry leaves and other items to be used as fuel in place of wood to conserve forest and greenery. Moreover, the irrigation channels, streams (gols) would be drenched and cleared of flooded materials and widened besides construction of embankments in the villages. ]]>

    A good step. We appreciate it and hope that the SGAFP (USAID) will extend its assistance to upper valleys of Yarkhun and Laspur as well.
