Chitrali boy wins South Asian table tennis tournament
KARACHI: Ummam Khawaja Chitrali won the Under-12 South Asian table tennis tournament held in Karachi on Saturday.
In the final match, the young Khawaja, who is a student of class 7 in a private school in Peshawar, beat his Sri Lankan competetor by 3/1 to win the gold medal for his country.
With the victory of Ummam Chitrali, Pakistan also qualified for taking part in the Asian table tennis championship to be held in South Korea next month. The young Chitrali boy will represent the country in the tournament.
Two players from each province and the federal capital territory had been selecetd for the South Asian championship in Karachi. Besides Ummam, another Chitrali boy, Haseebur Rehman Khawaja, also took part in the tournament and remained third.
Ummam Chitrali is the son of senior Chitrali journalist Nadir Khawaja, who is based in Peshawar.
