School building damaged in 2010 floods yet to be rebuilt

school Local councilor Inayatullah and a social worker Sarawat Shah told ChitralToday that the building of the primary school was built through funds provided by a Greek volunteer, Authonasie. But the flash floods in 2010 washed away the building. Despite repeated requests by the local people, the education department Chitral never bothered to reconstruct the building. As a result, the children of this backward area are compelled to continue their education in small tents pitched posted on the debris of the school building. In harsh weathers, there is no option for the teachers except to send back the students home. More than 150 students, both boys and girls, are enrolled in the school but there is also no drinking water for them. The tent school also has no boundary wall. It is surprising that on the one hand the government has ordered enhanced security for schools, especially after the Dec 16, 2014, Army Public School attack in Peshawar, but on the other most of the government educational institutions are without the basic security of even boundary walls. The local circles demanded that the authorities should allocate funds for the construction of the school building so that the children could get education in a conducive environment.]]>
