Quake-hit people continue protest sit-in in Drosh
DROSH: People affected by the earthquake of this year have continued their protest sit-in here.
The protesters are making speeches, assailing the local administration and the provincial government for depriving them of the monetary assistance provided by the federal government. The participants of the sit-in were also chanting slogans against the authorities concerned of the district administration and the KP government.
They said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Chitral had announced funds for the rehabilitation of the earthquake-displaced people but the local administration first delayed the assessment of the damages and was now not ready to give the compensation cheques to the owners of the damaged houses. The protesters said the authorities had kept out the names of the genuine affected people from the lists of affectees and accommodated their own near and dear ones as well as friends and other undeserving people.
Even many people whose names were included in the lists were not given the compensation cheques. Besides, nepotism and favoritism were committed in the distribution of relief goods, they alleged.
Those who spoke on the occasion included Hassan Muhammad, former nazim Abdul Bari, Haji Shifa, Qari Nizam Uddin, District Council member Inamul Haq, Sher Azam and Salah Uddin. They vowed to continue raising voices against the injustices till the deserving people were given their rights.–Jahan Zeb Rahi]]>
