Quake-hit people of Mroi protest govt apathy

mroi Shah Nawaz Sana Razakhel, a resident of Mroi, told ChitralToday that three people lost their lives in the October 26 natural disaster while 87 houses were fully and 123 others partially damaged in the village. He said due to the absence of any relief, the affected people were compelled to live in tents even in the severe cold. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Chitral after the earthquake had announced that the distribution of compensation cheques among the owners of the damaged houses would be completed within four days. However, even after about two weeks, the government departments concerned have not bothered to help the quake-displaced people of Mroi in reconstructing their damaged houses. The residents of the whole village have warned that in case of further delay in the payment of compensation to the affected people, they would launch a fully-fledged protest against the government’s injustice. They also demanded that the quake-hit people of Mroi should be provided relief goods to cope with the cold wave. It may be noted that most of the relief measures announced by the prime minister for the flood-affected people of Chitral are also yet to be fulfilled even after four months. The prime minister during his second visit to Chitral was surprised after he was informed that the flood-hit people had not been paid compensation as announced by him. He also ordered an inquiry and action against the elements responsible for delaying help to the affected people.]]>
