The decision was taken by the government on reports that the lists prepared by local government elected representatives, including chairmen of village councils and tehsil council members, contained fake names ignoring the genuinely affected people. There were reports that the elected representatives had included in the lists the names of their relatives, friends and political supporters at the cost of the people whose houses had been damaged beyond repair.
Now the house-to-house survey is being carried out by the officials of the Chitral Scouts, Levies, local administration and the elected representatives.
The move is aimed at ensuring that no quake-hit family remained without relief goods and rehabilitation.
However, social and political circles here said that by resorting to nepotism, the elected representatives have lost their image and public confidence. ]]>
