PESHAWAR: The payment of compensation to people affected by the earthquake begins today.
A spokesman for NDMA said the provinces have been advised to complete assessment of damages in their respective areas.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has so far recorded over 62 aftershocks with magnitude ranging from 2.5 to 5.3 on Richter scale. NDMA has released 15,500 blankets, 8,750 tents 3,500 plastic mats, 14,000 tarpaulin shelter, 10 ton of Food Packs and 14 tons of bottled water for the earthquake victims.
NDMA has sent 2550 blankets for earthquake affected people of Chitral. Telecommunication networks have already been restored. National highways network has also been opened for traffic in earthquake hit areas.
Stranded tourists from Naran, Basil have been evacuated by helicopters. SMS alerts have been started in Shangla, Upper Dir, Chitral and Bajaur Agency. A NDMA team is already in Chitral to assess the situation on ground and oversee relief operation.
