FIR in missing office equipment case ordered

ABBotabad, Aug 28: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has ordered the recovery of an amount of Rs 23.7 million from different officials in head of different irregularities in Local Government and Rural Development (LG&RD) Department.
The orders were issued at a meeting of the committee held in KP House, Abbottabad, with MPA Shaukat Ali Yousufzai in the chair. Provincial Minister for Finance Muzaffar Said, Arbab Akbar Hayat and Mufti Said Janan attended the meeting.
The PAC in light of the Auditor General Reports of the years 2011-12 and 2012-13 discussed different audit objections of the year 2008-09 and 2009-10 in Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Local Government and Rural Development Department. The committee expressed dismay over non-surrendering of 30 vehicles despite the closure of the billions of rupees’ Community Infrastructure Project-II to the Planning and Development (P&D) Department.
Shaukat Yousufzai was of the view that after the completion of different projects their arrears and payments were put on the government and through forgery in documents their assets were stolen. He said the assets of the project should be surrendered to the department concerned.
After detailed discussion the PAC constituted a sub-committee comprising of MPAs Arbab Akbar Hayat and Qurban Ali to probe the matter and present report to the committee. Regarding the shifting of a photo copier machine an d some other items from Chitral Community Infrastructure Project II to its Chitral Office in 2008-09 which during raids by NAB were later recovered from a shop, the committee ordered the registration of acase against the concerned officials and recovery equal to the value of those items.
The committee also took stern notice of the missing of two trucks loaded of food items for the flood-affected people during the year 2010-11 and directed the constitution of a joint committee of Audit, Finance and PDMA to investigate the matter. The PAC also announced the constitution of an inquiry committee comprising law, finance and PDMA departments to investigate the non-deduction of the income tax to the tune of Rs 12.5 million from the suppliers by PDMA during the year 2011-12.
The committee once again took stern notice of the matter of non-provision of related record to audit parties and clarified that the timely provision of the record was the responsibility of the departments concerned. Otherwise, legal proceedings could also be initiated against them.–Business Recorder
