Heatwave may trigger more GLOFs in Chitral: PMD

BOONI, Aug 20: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Islamabad has warned that air temperature in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral is expected to increase by 2-4°C during the next three days due to relatively clearer skies.
floodAfterward, it added, light to moderate rain is also expected at isolated places. As a result, melt rate will enhance which is likely to trigger GLOF/flash flood events in Bagrot, Shigar, Skardu, Khaploo, Ghanchey and valleys of Chitral.
People residing along the path of flow must remain vigilant during the period and authorities concerned may take necessary measures, it said.It may be noted that a severe heatwave has gripped the valley of Chitral for the last over a few weeks which the local people said was unusual in the month. —SN Peerzada
