BOONI, March 15: This man from Brep in Upper Chitral is a known wanderer and humorist entertainer for many in the valley of Chitral.
Syed Ali Shah can be seen wandering in almost all parts of Chitral round the year drawing chants of Shoshpa Ugh from people of all ages, especially children. About three months ago, Shah crossed the Shandur pass into the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan on the invitation of the then governor Pir Karam Ali Shah.
The governor had invited Shah to Gilgit-Baltistan during his visit to Booni in the summer of this year. Shah did not realize that the the road between Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan gets closed anytime for months in later autumn due to snowfall in the mountainous area. He was about to return to Chitral when the Shandur pass closed due to snowfall.
For the last three months, Shah is said to have been stuck in the Ghizer district unable to come back to Chitral. When the Shandur pass road gets closed in the winter, the only way for people to travel between the two region is the Karakorum Highway via Peshawar or Islamabad.
People here told ChitralToday that it would take at least over a month for the reopening of the Shandur road. So by then, the Chitrali guest in Ghizer would have to wait there. People here said as Shah was the invited guest of the government of Gilgit-Baltistan, the arrangements for his return to Chitral should be made by the administration of Gilgit.
Shospa Ugh and MPA Syed Sardar Hussain have been the frequent visitors to Pir Syed Karam Ali Shah. The MPA has failed to do anything constructive for the people of Chitral using the influence of Pir sahib. And I am sure this Sufy from Brep is also disappointed with the performance of his brother MPA. Now, he himself has embarked on a long trip to Gilgit to pay homage to the Pir sahib.
Sufi is a guest of GB govt. He would be having a comfortable stay there.
Sufi pays frequent visits to GB, and once got married there. It doesn’t matter for him to be here or there. He is a man of everywhere.
