Human development key to poverty alleviation

CHITRAL, Jan 13: The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) under its ELLY project of youth empowerment conducted 15-day training on wood curving for the youth of Drosh area.

According to a statement, the trainees were identified by the local support organization, DADP, from the union councils of Shishikoh, Ashrait and Drosh-I. The Drosh Institute of Computer and Technical Education imparted the training.

Speaking at the concluding session, Syed Ali Raza Shah, the enterprise development officer AKRSP, said the objective of the skill development training was to equip the youth of this backward area with different skills so that they could use the skill for economic empowerment. He added that poverty reduction could only be alleviated by human development.

Talking to the trainees, renowned educationist Muhammad Salim Kamil said now it was the turn of the skilled persons how to utilize it. Manager DADP Ishfaq Alam and Irfanullah Jan said DADP would provide the trainees micro-credit with on easy terms and conditions.
