Students asked to play their role in elimination of corruption
BOONI, Dec 11: The Govt Girls Degree College Booni organized a one-day seminar on corruption in society where speakers came up with ideas for the prevention and elimination of such practices.
According to a press release issued by the college, all the students, principal, teaching and administrative staff of the college participated in the seminar titled: “Creating awareness regarding corrupt practices in the society and their prevention”.
Principal Govt Degree College Booni, Mr. Hidayatul Islam, also participated in the seminar. On the occasion, the students presented different items on the issue of corruption in which the prevailing forms of bribery, commission culture, gifts taking, shirking from duty, unfair means in examinations, unfair recruitments based on nepotism, favoritism and many others, usually committed by all factions of people from labor class to ruling class were highlighted.
A group of students highlighted the disastrous impacts of corruption on the nation through presentation. elaborating the highlights of the presentation, a student delivered speech in English and pointed out poverty and lawlessness to be the major and rudimentary causes of corruption.
Following the points of the presentation, another student delivered speech in Urdu and said that corruption has been pervasive in all the departments like an unbridled horse and warned that the result will be highly dangerous if this epidemic left uncontrolled. Expressing her view, she said severe punishment to the guilty was the remedy for the eradication of the menace.
Other worse aspects of corruption were highlighted through role play and reciting odes and poems by other groups of students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of GDC Booni, Mr. Hidayatul Islam, said being Muslims we must follow the teachings of Islam. Instead of blaming others we must adopt self-accountability, he added. He also said through education we can develop our country; development is possible only if we eradicate corruption. He concluded his speech with the message to the students not to waste their time and work hard to change the society.
The Principal of the College, Mrs. Hasina Wajib, also threw light on corruption and its impacts on society. Delivering her message on the occasion, she said that corruption has paralyzed our lives. She advised the students to play their role in elimination of corruption as students are the change agent.
At the end of the seminar, Mrs. Razia Zulfiqar, Lecturer in Chemistry, appreciated the students and also thanked the participants.
only organizing seminar is not enough.we must have practical fight against the evil.Anyhow creating awareness is also appreciable.
