No interference in posting, transfer of teachers, says Khattak
PESHAWAR, Nov 18: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that PTI-led coalition government has pulled itself out of the complexities of postings and transfers of teachers and the politics of issuing transfer orders and then cancelling it by the ministers and high ups to please voters and revenge opponents has become story of the past then.
He said his government had adopted a candid policy of adhering to the merit, law and justice in education besides other sectors and departments to cleanse it from corruption and mismanagement that was rampant in the past. He was speaking as chief guest at ceremony held to hand over key of transport buses to colleges at the Archive Library Hall Peshawar. Under the scheme, Hiace vehicles were provided to 14 colleges of the province meant for facilitating teachers to reach their colleges in the remote areas.
Such facility will be provided to 50 more colleges till end of this year. He said that in the past the educational development budget was Rs.5 billion but we made drastic increase of Rs.1 billion (20%) in it. Similarly he said Rs.350 million has been allocated for provision of computers, furniture and other fixture that would be made available to the colleges on need basis. By next year all such needs of colleges will be fulfilled and there will be no complaint left of such deficiency in the colleges in the future. He said though our government has decided to focus attention on fully equipping the existing colleges, remove its deficiencies and maximize facilities there but even new colleges will also be established as per requirement in any part of the province.
The chief minister said provincial govt has pioneered to establish academy for training of the college teachers as well as allocated Rs.40 million for the teacher training purposes. Similarly two colleges of Home Economics are also established this year for the 1st time in the province. He said our govt is strengthening the colleges and universities while drastic steps have been taken to free it from all sort of political and government interferences including its admissions, academic and administrative affairs.
He said Rs.20 million have been set aside for universities that is equal to the grants provided to it by the federal government despite the fact that universities come into the ambits of federal government and availability of lion share of resources to universities is in-fact the responsibility of center. He further revealed that in order to promote higher education and facilitate students and researchers in nook and corner of the province, our government is also establishing four more government libraries at district level in the province.
Hence in next three years, all the district will have full fledged libraries having books on all subjects and topics. He said our government has made increase of Rs. 1 billion in the current expenditures of provincial budget in higher education sector whereas over 300 new posts of teachers have been created.
Likewise he said all contract appointments have been made on merit through EATA tests for the first time in the province whereas deficiency of teachers in the far flung colleges have been fulfilled completely. Hence he said today his govt can rightly claim that there will be no shortage of teachers in any college of the province in future.
