Shutter-down strike observed in Booni against stalled project
BOONI, Oct 28: A shutter-down was observed in Booni by the local traders against the delay in the reconstruction of the Booni bridge and the road. The traders were supported by the movement for the rights of people Mastuj (Tehreek huqooq-e-Awam) and the local bar association. The lawyers boycotted courts and assembled along with the residents and traders at Booni bazaar. Speakers on the occasion said that Booni bridge was among 12 bridges to be reconstructed by the provincial government. Funds for the projects were released in 2012 and all the bridges except the Booni bridge were completed. The contractor of the Booni bridge belonging to Dir district built two pillars of the bridge and disappeared. They said the dilapidated bridge was causing great hardship in communication and was a threat to people’s lives. The protesters asked MPA Sardar Hussain to stop his photo session with PPP leaders in Sindh and come bact to his constituency to resolve the public issues in teh area. They warned that they would stage a sit-in on Mastuj-Chitral road at Booni bridge on Wednesday and block traffic till the government started the stalled project. Later, an official of the local administration met the leaders of the protesters and sought one week’s time to get the work on the bridge started. Those who spoke on the occasion included Muhammad Pervez, Muhammad Shafi, Rehmat Salam and Rahim Khan.]]>
