Book fair opens at Commerce College

CHITRAL, Oct 14: A book fair organized by the National Book Foundation (NBF) opened at the Govt Commerce College Chitral on Monday.

This is for the first time that the NBF has arranged such a fair in the district of Chitral. A large number of people, mostly students and teachers, visited the book fair. A variety of books have been put on display and different companies offered reduced prices on books on various subjects.

Book fairs will also be held in the towns of Booni and Drosh. The book fair was opened by officials of the district government and the school administration in the presence of the NBF managing director Murad Ali.

Addressing the opening ceremony, the speakers said Chitral lacked basic facilities in the field of education and the holding of the book fair was a right step to provide an opportunity to the students to purchase books on affordable prices.—S. Nazir Hussain

WE warmly welcome Mr. Murad Ali and his team in this land of peace, Chitral. Since its inception in 1972, NBF has graced this land for the first time in 42 years for a good cause—“making books available at moderate prices” and spreading knowledge among the people. We really hope that these events will provide good opportunity for the book lovers to have varieties of book at their doorsteps.
Say it human behavior or what, I felt somehow “ehsas e mehrumi ka shikar’ for not having found Garam Chashma in the proposed event schedule—and for keeping it away from this purely educational event for no obvious reasons. Nonetheless, I am very happy for the NBF’s maiden visit to Chitral: Chitral town, Drosh and Booni. After all, there is a saying in Khowar: Tatn ki boshitai maten Chatir*.
Before signing off, I humbly request the National Book Foundation Islamabad: it took forty-two long years to plan your first visit to Chitral. Please do not take another four decades for the next!
    Otherwise:
Khak Ho Jain Gay Hum Tum Ko Khabar Hone Tak!
