Politicians asked to stay away from transfers, postings in education dept
CHITRAL, May 28: The annual parent day was celebrated at the Government Centennial Model High School Chitral. Member Provincial Assembly Fouzia Bibi was chief guest while the ceremony was presided over by Nisar Muhammad Khan, the District Education Officer. Students of different classes presented Qirat, Naath Sharif and national songs. Some students also delivered speeches in English and Urdu on the topic of “Live nation” which was highly appreciated by the participants. The students performed in tableau and stage dramas highlighting the importance of valuing time. Addressing the gathering, the MPA said that the provincial government was trying to bring positive changes in existing system for betterment of the education system. She said that Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf was also trying its best to impose equal education system in the country and eliminate discrimination in the education system. She said that some 28,000 schools would be constructed in the province. “We appointed some 8,000 new teachers whereas posts of 14,000 are still lying vacant of which 6,000 will be filled after June 2014 through the NTS.” She said that some 600 female teachers were terminated for not performing their duties properly, adding the PTI had zero tolerance for corrupt people. “We check the performance of teachers and schools through our independent monitoring unit and will be giving cash awards to the best teachers,” she added. She also said that new buildings of schools would be constructed which would have six classrooms each against the only two-room buildings in the past. She asked philanthropists to support the Tameeri School Program of the KP government under which 114 schools had already been selected. She said that 70% new schools will be constructed for female to increase literacy ratio among women. Zuhra Jalal, District Education Officer (female) on the occasion stressed upon politicians and elected representatives to avoid interfering in posting and transfer of teachers and work for the improvement of the education system and development of the country. “We need quality education as quantity is of no importance. Some 1,373 female candidates have recently submitted applications for just seven posts of primary schoolteachers. She appealed to politicians not to support teachers who do not perform their duties but take undue support from them. The EDO (male) asked the stakeholders as well as the media to play their role in the improvement of education system and brining positive changes.
