Water supply to Ayun restored

CHITRAL, April 21: The main irrigation channel of Ayun, which was damaged by flooding about one year back, was reconstructed with funds provided by the SRSP.

The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) provided about 6.3 million rupees for the restoration of the channel. The damage to the channel in August last year had affected about 1,600 households cutting off water supply to hundreds of acres of land. Shahzada Masoodul Mulk, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the SRSP, was chief guest at a function to open the water channel.

Speaking on the occasion, people of the area thanked the SRSP and chief executive officer, who also belongs to the Ayun village, for allocating the amount for the rehabilitation project.

They said Ayun is a very fertile land and its rice, wheat, vegetables and fruits are famous. Maulana Ghulam Yousuf, Haji Abdul Rehman, Ihsanullah Khan, member board of director, and Maulana Khaleequz Zaman spoke on the occasion. The speakers also appreciated the local community for constructing the concrete wall and water channel.–Gul Hamaad Farooqi
