Work on Red Crescent Society office begins in Chitral
CHITRAL, April 20: The chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lieutenant General (retired) Mohammad Hamid Khan, has said his organization was fully prepared to rush to the vulnerable people and cope with natural as well as man-made disasters.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the district office of PRCS Chitral here on Sunday, he said they also rushed to the needy segments of the society in the circumstances other than calamities and extended help to them in different sectors of development.
This was the underlying factor that PRCS is opening district offices to ensure its presence in all the districts of the province as the offices acted as artery to carry out its activities, he said.
He pledged to make Chitral office a vibrant one fully provided with required resources keeping in view its geographical peculiarity and the fact that it was prone to more number of natural hazards than the other districts.
The programme manager of PRCS, Mohammad Arif, told the gathering that with the financial aid of German Red Crescent (GRC), the district office will be built at a cost of 17 million rupees for which free of cost land has been provided by Jameel Ahmed of Jughoor.
He said PRCS had already started its operation in the district from the year 2008 and it made its presence felt by helping the affected people of the flood caused by torrential rains in the years 2010 and 2013.
He said with the financial assistance of GRC, the PRCS has undertaken the primary healthcare system in the three Kalash valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumbur where it has taken over the public healthcare facilities from the government. Mr. Arif said that the facilities have been strengthened in terms of infrastructure, medicines and staff including doctor. He added that to check the flood after the torrential rains in the Kalash valleys, it has raised check dams and protection walls whose usefulness were observed during the last year’s summer season. Earlier, the chairman formally inaugurated by unveiling the plaque of the ceremony and breaking ground.
Additional deputy commissioner Abdul Ghaffar and district support manager of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Program, colonel (retired) Dr. Fazle Rahim also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the contribution of PRCS in Chitral.–Zahiruddin]]>
