Garam Chashma road opened for light traffic
CHITRAL, April 4: Additional Assistant Commissioner Mazhar Ali Shah visited the run down Garam Chashma road which remained blocked for about three weeks at different points due to landsliding and avalanches after the recent rains and snowfall. After working day and night, however, contractor Pineen Khan has removed most of the boulders and debris from the road and restored light traffic on the only road to the Garam Chashma valley. The AC on the occasion also met the local people and inquired about the performances of different government departments in the area. The residents, however, expressed satisfaction over the working of the departments and did not lodge any complaint against them. On one occasion, however, former UC nazim Shokhor Muhammad and others informed the AC that Zafaruddin and his brothers had closed the link road to Arkari, a sub-valley of Garam Chashma. They said Mr Zafar and his brothers were demanding compensation because the road passed through their agricultural land. They said efforts to enter into an agreement between the people and Mr Zafar had failed. The AC directed the police to probe into the matter and get the road opened and if someone created hindrance in it action should be taken against them. The AC also paid snap visit to Shoghor and inspected different items of daily use in the local market. He took notice of some substandard items being sold by the shopkeepers and warned them that if they continued the practice action would be taken against them.—Nazir Hussain ]]>
