AKRSP, SRSP accused of neglecting Mastuj

MASTUJ, Jan 17: Two prominent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in Chitral have neglected the most backward area of Mastuj for the last many years. In a press statement, Attaliq Muhammad Sabir Khan, a social worker of the area, said the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) and the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) claimed to be working on poverty alleviation in the backward areas and received funds from foreign agencies. Recently, these two NGOs have received billions of rupees in the name of construction and maintenance of hydro-powerhouses and different development works in Chitral, he added. However, Mr Khan said that the people of Parkusap had been demanding from different platforms that their powerhouse needed upgradation and should be provided funds but to no avail. Both the NGOs did not give any importance to the demand saying that the Mastuj UC was not included in the list of their development, he added. “We want to ask the management of these NGOs if the Mastuj UC is not part of Chitral or the donors have taken the area out of their priority list,” he added. He was of the view that Mastuj was the most backward area and deserved more attention in terms of development. In other parts of Chitral, different LSOs were working but in case of Mastuj the only LSO was Qasado. But it seems that Mastuj is deliberately being discriminated against by the AKRSP and the SRSP, he added.]]>
