More snowfall on Lowari adds to Chitralis' troubles

DIR UPPER: The Dir city and surrounding areas received second snowfall of the winter season adding to the problems of the stranded people of landlocked Chitral district. The snowfall started in the wee hours of Tuesday and blanketed Dir town and surrounding mountains. The town received up to five inches of snow and people had to clear their roof tops from snow. However, Lowari Pass received up to two feet snow and blocked road to Chitral district. The Chitralis were already stranded in Dir due to closure of Lowari Top. The National Highway Authority (NHA) has also disallowed traffic to go through the unfinished Lowari tunnel. The people of Chitral have been protesting in Peshawar and other areas to demand opening of the tunnel. However, the authorities have failed to take up the issue, leaving the Chitralis in continued trouble.]]>
