Drosh: protesters ask govt to open tunnel on daily basis

DROH, Dec 31: A protest gathering of people here on Tuesday asked the government to open the Lowari tunnel on a daily basis to emelorate the sufferings of the people of Chitral in the winter. irshad The protest meeting at the Drosh bazaar, which was organized by the traders and drivers unions was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life. The public meetring was held under the chairmanship of Muazzak han while Jamal Abdul Nasir was the stage secretary. Those who spoke on the occasion included Haji Sultan Mehmood, Razitubillah of the Pakaistan tehreek-e-Insaf, Shaukatul Mulk of Pakistan Muslim league (PML-N), Irshad Mukarar of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Salahuddin of the JUI and former UC nazim Abdul Bari. The speakers said that due to the closure of the Lowari tunnel, people of Chitral were suffering in one way or the other. They said even Chitrali passengers stranded in Dir side of the Lowari pass were forced to sell their valuables at throwaway rates. They said that after traveling for hours when the Chitrali passengers reach the under-construction Lowari tunnel, the NHA staff stopped them there for hours. They said this was the rampant violation of the human rights which would not be acceptable and tolerable in any civilized society. The speakers said that the recent ruling of the senior civil judge about the opening of the tunnel for three days a week should be implemented in letter and spirit otherwise a contempt of court petition would be moved against the NHA. In the end, a resolution was passed which said that from tomorrow a shutter-down strike would be observed in the area and no public and government transport would be allowed to ply on the roads.
