CHITRAL, Dec 27: Speakers at a gathering paid tributes to slain PPP chairperson Benzair Bhutto on her sixth death anniversary here on Friday.
The event held at the town hall was presided over by PPP Chitral general secretary Abdul Hakim Khan Advocate while former KPK minister Saleem Khan, MPA, was the chief guest. A large number of people attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Saleem Khan said Ms Bhutto spent her life fighting for the rights of the downtrodden and women. He said the workers of the PPP would continue working on the principles of their leaders for the supremacy of the constitution and promotion of democracy. He also said that the decision of Bilawal Bhutto to practically take part in politics would have a very positive impact on the politics of the country.
Saleem Khann on the occasion also criticized the government for its failure to open the Lowari tunnel, adding opening of the passageway for two days after two weeks’ closure would be an injustice with the people of Chitral. He said during the tenure of the PPP, the government had put in place proper schedule for the opening of the tunnel. He said he had taken up the issue with relevant authorities and if the tunnel was not opened weekly, he would lead protest rallies in Islamabad and Peshawar.
